New Guinea: Indian Naval Ships Sahyadri and Kolkata, part of the Eastern IOR mission, reached Port Moresby on 02 Aug 23, to bolster maritime partnership and cooperation with Papua New Guinea.

Enhancing Maritime Partnership: The port call serves as a crucial opportunity for the crew of both ships to engage in a diverse range of activities with the PNG Defence Forces. These activities will include professional interactions, cultural exchanges, invigorating Yoga sessions, and guided tours of the visiting ships. The primary aim of this visit is to strengthen ties between India and Papua New Guinea in the maritime domain.

A Closer Look at INS Sahyadri and INS Kolkata: INS Sahyadri, Commanded by Capt Rajan Kapoor, INS Sahyadri represents the third ship of the indigenously designed and built Project-17 class multirole stealth frigates. This technologically advanced vessel, constructed at Mazagon Dock Ltd, Mumbai, is equipped with state-of-the-art weapons and sensors capable of addressing threats in all dimensions.

INS Kolkata: Under the command of Capt Sharad Sinsunwal, INS Kolkata is the first ship of the indigenously designed and built Project-15A class destroyers. Like its counterpart, it was also built at Mazagon Dock Ltd, Mumbai, and boasts an impressive array of modern weaponry and sensors to effectively tackle challenges from all quarters.
