Fire breaks out in Indian Navy's INS Vikramaditya, all personnel safe: Navy

New Delhi: A fire broke out in India's aircraft vessel INS Vikramaditya on Saturday morning. An Indian Navy spokesperson said in a statement here that the fire has been doused and all the personnel on board are safe. "The personnel on duty noticed smoke rising from the occupants of the marines on the warplane," the statement said".

The duty personnel of the vessel took prompt action to douse the fire. All the personnel on board the ship were counted and no major damage was caused. A Naval spokesperson informed that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. The vessel is standing in the port.

This warship is a 2013-class aircraft carrier purchased from Russia, which has been renovated and named in honour of the great ruler Vikramaditya. Originally built in Baku and joined the Russian Navy fleet in 1987, the ship served with the Soviet and Russian navies. It was discharged in 1996 as it was very expensive to operate.
