Rajkot: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the return of Ravichandran Ashwin to the Test squad after a brief absence due to a family emergency. Ashwin, who had to abruptly leave the squad after Day 2 of the 3rd Test in Rajkot, will rejoin the team for the remainder of the match against England.

In a statement, the BCCI stated, "Both R Ashwin and the team management are pleased to confirm that he will be back in action on Day 4 and will continue to contribute towards the team cause in the ongoing Test match."

Ashwin had to rush home after the conclusion of Day 2 play to attend to a family emergency concerning his ailing mother, according to BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla.

Despite the interruption, match officials have granted Ashwin permission to bat and bowl immediately upon his return to the field, without undergoing any mandatory waiting period typically required for players out of action in a Test match.

The BCCI expressed gratitude for the understanding and support shown by the team, players, media, and fans during this challenging period. They acknowledged the importance of family as a priority and emphasized the unity and support extended to Ashwin during his absence. The management is delighted to welcome him back to the team, signaling a collective sense of relief at his return.
