PM Modi's supporter Priti Patel named home minister as Boris Johnson

LONDON: Priti Patel has been appointed a home minister in the government of newly appointed Boris Johnson. He is the first Indian-origin leader to reach this important position in PM Boris Johnson's team. Conservative Party leader Priti Patel has been replaced by Sajid Javid as Home Minister. Sajid Javid is of Pakistani origin and has been assigned to the Finance Ministry. He is the first leader of the ethnic minority community to reach this position.

Priti Patel originally hails from Gujarat and has often been a major part of the programs of Indian expatriate in the UK. He is considered a major supporter of Indian PM Narendra Modi in Britain. Britain's ruling Conservative Party has elected Boris Johnson as the party's new leader following Theresa May's resignation over Brexit. Johnson then met Queen Elizabeth II and was declared Britain's new Prime Minister.

Earlier in Britain, leader of the ruling Conservative Party and former Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson was elected new prime minister on Tuesday. In his victory speech, he expressed confidence to the supporters to act better with speed. Johnson's victory was tremendous and he won 92,153 votes, while his opponent Jeremy Hunt was reduced to 46,656 votes.
