New Delhi: Indian para-athletes have made the country proud by surpassing their previous record in the ongoing 4th Asian Para Games. The Union Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur, congratulated them on their remarkable achievement. On Thursday, India achieved a total of 82 medals, surpassing their previous record of 72, which was set in Indonesia in 2018. With two more days to go, India is looking to increase its medal tally further in the Hangzhou games.
In 2018, India secured 72 medals, including 15 gold, 24 silver, and 33 bronze. However, this time, they have outperformed themselves, achieving their best-ever medal tally in the games. The historic 73rd medal was clinched by Nithya Sre, who won a bronze medal in the women's singles SH6 event.
The Union Sports Minister praised the para-athletes for their outstanding performance and the determination they have shown in breaking the previous record. India's medal tally in the ongoing Asian Para Games now stands at 82 medals, including 18 gold, 23 silver, and 41 bronze. Para badminton alone has contributed 13 bronze medals to India's impressive haul.
The Indian para-athletes continued their success as Sheetal Devi won a gold medal in archery. Sheetal displayed a scintillating performance in the women's compound open event, defeating Singapore's Alim Nur Syahidah. It was a closely contested match, with Sheetal securing victory by delivering back-to-back perfect scores while her opponent made a few errors in shots.
