New Delhi: Indian Railways has been moving fast for the last few years. Bullet trains and Vande Bharat trains are witnessing rapid expansion. Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has increased this year's railway budget. Rs 2.4 lakh crore has been announced in budget 2023 for railways. Finance Minister Sitharaman said that this is the highest allocation so far. That is, this budget of the Railways is about 9 times more than the year 2013-14 (Congress tenure).

How the railway budget grew year after year:

2009-14: Rs 10,623 crore, Annual average (Cong govt)
2014-19: Rs 24,347 crore, Annual average (BJP govt)
2022-23: Rs 77,271 crore 
2023-24: Rs 2,40,000 crore 

However, no specific announcements have been made separately for the Railways. Due to which it is believed that the Railways will focus on completing its old schemes only. Experts on the railway budget also said that the emphasis of the Modi government will be on strengthening the railway infrastructure and bringing high-speed trains. Because work is already going on on many important railway projects. These include Bullet Train Project, Rapid Train, Chenab River Railway Bridge, Bairbi-Sairang New Line Railway Project, etc. By increasing the budget, the government will focus on laying new lines, increasing the number of semi-high-speed trains, and completing the already ongoing projects. However, no announcement has been made on any issue related to the common people in the Railways.

Increase in railway earnings:

At the same time, the earnings of the railways have registered an increase this year. The Railway Ministry has earned Rs 42,370 crore more revenue than the previous financial year. Compared to last year, the income of the railways has increased by 71 percent. However, earlier in 2021, there was a loss of Rs 26 thousand 338 crore. The government is currently working on running 400 Vande Bharat trains in two years.
