Indian Railways records highest freight loading in January 2021

New Delhi: Indian Railways carried 11.979 million tonnes of freight in January 2021. This is the largest figure recorded for a single month of freight. Earlier, Indian Railways set a record of 11.974 million tonnes of freight in March 2019. The Railway Ministry has said in a statement that Indian Railways' freight figures for the past few months have been surpassing the figures for the same month a year ago. In this case, the total transportation of this year is expected to be more than the previous year.

As of February 8, the Indian Railways handled 3.054 million tonnes of cargo, including 1.361 million tonnes of coal, 41.5 lakh tonnes of iron ore, 10.4 lakh tonnes of food grains, 10.3 lakh tonnes of fertilizers, 9.6 lakh tonnes of mineral oil, and 19.7 lakh tonnes of cement (Excluding clinker) is included. The statement said that 'To make railway freight attractive, a number of concessions and concessions are being given. The corona epidemic has been used by Indian Railways as an opportunity to improve its overall efficiency and performance.'

Further, the Ministry of Railways has held meetings with iron and steel, cement, electricity, coal, automobile, and logistics service providers to attract new business and encourage other existing consumers, according to the statement.
