Government of India had devised a way to control pollution in the country. In which all diesel engines will be converted into electric engines. And the pollution caused by diesel engines will be controlled. Last year the first engine was changed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi from diesel to electric. After that, now the railway is considering its plan again. Whether to convert old diesel engines to electric locomotives is economically and technically the best way.

Railway had said in 2018 that they are planning to replace all its diesel engines with electric locomotives. Railway Board Chairman VK Yadav said in his statement that a high-level committee has been formed to assess the advantages and disadvantages of the scheme, which is expected to report by August 15. So far three diesel engines have been converted into electric, each of which has cost two crores. VK Yadav further said that the Railways is also considering exporting its diesel engines to neighbouring countries.

On Friday, Railway Board President V.K. Yadav said that the Railways has not announced any new train services apart from 230 train services. He told that many state governments have reduced trains due to Coronavirus. Addressing a virtual press conference, VK Yadav said that we are in constant touch with the state government, and due to coronavirus, we can cancel some trains, reduce the frequency of trains and sometimes even stop the trains. A decision can be taken only after the situation in the country improves.
