Indian Railways makes many big announcements for its passengers from time to time. Now in this connection, the Railways is considering to introduce a premium tatkal scheme in all trains in future. In fact, the Railways reserves some seats under the Premium Tatkal scheme and passengers have to pay some extra amount to book these tickets. At the same time, if this service starts on all trains, then millions of passengers of the railways can be affected. In fact, at present, the option of premium tatkal booking is available for about 80 trains.
In such a situation, the move to implement quota in all trains will help the railways to get more revenue, while this will also help in balancing the burden being faced by the railways due to fare concessions. In the year 2020-21, the Railways has earned more than Rs 500 crore from Tatkal and Premium Tatkal bookings. Among all this, the Railways may also restore fare concessions for senior citizens, who were withdrawn in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
By the way, you will know senior citizens can come back with a change in the subsidy criteria, which includes increasing the eligible age from 58 years to 70 years for men and 60 years for women. At the same time, sources say, the senior citizen concession is likely to be restored only for tickets for general and sleeper category non-AC classes.
