Railways have taken a major decision in view of the growing crisis of coronavirus during the festive season. In a major number of stations in the Mumbai metropolitan region, Central Railway has hiked the prices of platform tickets drastically to reduce congestion at railway stations. At some places in Mumbai, the price of platform tickets will now be sold for Rs 50 instead of Rs 10. As per the information received, the price of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus in Mumbai and thane, Kalyan, Panvel stations of Mumbai Division has now been subdued to Rs. 50.

The same has been reported by the Central Railway Zone of Indian Railways that the new rate of platform tickets has come into effect from today and will remain in force till further orders. This has been done to prevent congestion on platforms and railway stations and to prevent congestion and terminus due to festival season.

At the same time, Indian Railways had reported in March this year that the increase in platform ticket prices at some stations is a temporary measure to prevent the spread of corona infection. According to railways, it is being done at limited stations where the heavy rush is observed. Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) has been entrusted with the power to increase the price of platform tickets from 2015 to prevent congestion at railway stations. On Thursday, the Railways extended the corona guideline separated by 6 months or till further directions. A notification issued by Railways said that a penalty of up to Rs.500 can be imposed for not wearing masks in railway premises and trains.
