New Delhi: The Serum Institute of India (SII) has said it has joined hands with Gavi and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to produce 100 million doses of the Corona vaccine for India and other low and middle-income countries. The Serum Institute has given information in this regard in a statement.
"This tie-up will provide the upfront capital to the Serum Institute to help it grow manufacturing capacity, so that Gavi Kovacs once regulatory approval and World Health Organization (WHO) approval," the statement said. Under AMC, by the first half of 2021, sufficient doses can be produced for distribution in India and other low-middle income countries. "
The company has said that it has fixed an economical rate of three dollars per dose i.e. about 225 rupees. The financing will also support AstraZeneca and Novavax's potential vaccine manufacturing. Vaccines of these two companies are currently undergoing trials. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will provide $ 150 million of risk-free funding to Gavi through its investment fund, to be used to support the Serum Institute in manufacturing potential vaccines and to purchase vaccines for future low- and middle-income countries.
