NEW DELHI: Manish Narwal, an accomplished pistol shooter, expressed optimism that India’s shooting team will exceed its Tokyo Paralympics medal tally at the upcoming Paris Games. The team has undergone rigorous training and is set to compete at the Chateauroux Centre near Paris starting August 30. The 10-member squad includes notable shooters such as Avani Lekhara, Mona Agarwal, and Narwal himself.
India secured two gold medals, one silver, and two bronze medals at the Tokyo Paralympics.
"Our preparations have been thorough, and we are determined to outperform our previous results and win more medals in Paris," Narwal stated. He, who clinched the gold in the 50m pistol (SH1) category in Tokyo, will now compete in the 10m air pistol event in Paris.
The shooting team comprises Narwal, Avani Lekhara, Mona Agarwal, as well as Amir Ahmad Bhat, Rudransh Khandelwal, Rubina Francis, Swaroop Unahalkar, Sidhartha Babu, Shriharsha Devaraddi, and Nihal Singh.
Special attention will be on Avani Lekhara, the reigning Paralympic champion who made history by winning two medals at Tokyo. At just 19, the Jaipur shooter secured gold in both the 10m air rifle and the 50m rifle 3-positions (SH1) events. She aims to repeat her success in Paris.
The Paralympic Committee is hopeful of breaking records with more than 25 medals in Paris, with the shooting team's performance expected to significantly influence the overall medal tally.
