New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi today held a mobile discussion with the players of the Indian women's hockey team. This made the eyes of hockey players moist. However, Prime Minister Modi encouraged them and praised their fighting spirit. Prime Minister Modi praised the performance of the sportspersons while discussing them on mobile. This moistened the eyes of the players. Prime Minister Modi said, "The medal could not come but your sweating has become an inspiration to crores of daughters of the country. Many congratulation to all the associates of the team and your coach.''

 

 

Prime Minister Modi also took the news about Navneet Kaur's injury. The players said Navneet Kaur suffered an eye injury and had to apply 4 stitches. "Don't be sad, the country is proud of you. It is through the hard work of you people that the identity of hockey is being revived.''

The Indian women made it to the semifinals and made their name in history. This was only the team's third Olympics in which they impressed the whole world with their game and made an indelible mark. In the bronze medal match, Great Britain defeated India 4-3 in a tough and interesting match. India returned after trailing by two goals but could not win the medal. The Indian women's team scored three goals within five minutes. Gurjit Kaur scored in the 25th and 26th minutes while Vandana Kataria scored in the 29th minute.
