New Delhi: India has taken a big step forward with the World Health Organization on traditional medicine. The Ministry of AYUSH has signed an agreement with the World Health Organisation to set up the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India at Jamnagar in Gujarat yesterday. Buoyed by the agreement, PM Narendra Modi said that this WHO centre will go a long way in enhancing the health of our society.
Pm Narendra Modi tagged the Twitter handle of the World Health Organization and said that India's traditional medicines and health systems are very famous globally. Earlier, the Ministry of AYUSH signed a Host Country Agreement with the WHO for setting up of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in India at Jamnagar in Gujarat, whose interim office is present at The Institute of Training and Research in Ayurveda in Gujarat.
The Ministry of AYUSH also said that the primary objective of GCTM is to harness the potential of traditional medicine from all over the world through modern science and technology and to improve the overall health of communities around the world. In a tweet on Friday, the WHO said that the WHO and the Government of India have approved the setting up of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine to maximize the capacity of traditional medicines through modern science and technology.
