South Korean President-elect meets Mike Pence in Seoul

SEOUL:  South Korean President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol met with former US Vice President Mike Pence in Seoul and had extensive discussions on security and alliance matters, Informed officials said on Saturday.

Yoon and Pence met for the second time after their first encounter in February, according to reports. As per officials, Yoon and Pence met for a two-hour breakfast meeting on Friday at a hotel in Seoul. Pence was in Seoul to speak at a conference on foreign affairs.

The officials said, Yoon and Pence discussed measures to deepen the South Korea-US relationship as well as their general perspectives on current world problems during their meeting on Friday.

In the wake of North Korea's test-firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Thursday, they also exchanged views on North Korean issues. "President-elect Yoon is a champion for Freedom and will strengthen the unbreakable relationship between the US and the Republic of Korea for decades to come," Pence tweeted after the meeting.
