Tehran: According to the Iranian Students' News Agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian has restated Iran's red lines in the nuclear talks in Vienna, including easing sanctions "to the maximum."
Abdollahian made the statement during a meeting with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati in Beirut on Thursday, emphasising Iran's will to defend the nuclear talks' red lines in order to protect its interests. "We are hopeful and committed to the result of the Vienna discussions. The agreement, in our opinion, should be structured in such a way that sanctions are lifted to the greatest extent possible "Mikati was informed. "We want the agreements to benefit the area and strengthen our excellent relations with regional countries," the Iranian top diplomat stated.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese prime minister expressed optimism about the talks in Vienna, saying that a favourable outcome will help the region as a whole, including Lebanon.
In 2015, Iran and international powers struck a historic nuclear deal. Former US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, pulled the US out of the agreement in May 2018 and reimposed unilateral sanctions on Iran.
