New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered an inspiring address on Tuesday, confidently asserting that India is on the cusp of joining the elite ranks of the world's top three economies. He expressed his optimism about India leading the charge in shaping a new world order, a sentiment echoed by global observers.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the prestigious Global Maritime India Summit, a three-day event held in the national capital, with his visionary perspective on India's future. He remarked, "In this rapidly evolving global landscape, all eyes are turned toward India with renewed hope. As the Indian economy gains momentum, the rest of the world grapples with economic turmoil. It is just a matter of time before India emerges as one of the world's top three economic powerhouses."
Highlighting the pivotal role of India's maritime sector, the Prime Minister emphasized its historical significance, stating, "History attests that India's maritime prowess has consistently translated into immense benefits for both our nation and the world. Over the past nine years, we have been meticulously bolstering this sector, guided by this principle."
Prime Minister Modi further underscored the transformative potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, saying, "The recent G20 Summit witnessed a historic consensus in favor of establishing the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. This monumental initiative, spearheaded by India, has the potential to rejuvenate the global maritime industry in the 21st century."
During the event, he also laid the foundation stone for ambitious projects with a combined worth of Rs 18,800 crore. Notably, the Tuna Tekra all-weather deep draft terminal, costing over Rs. 4,500 crore, is set to grace the Deendayal Port Authority in Gujarat. This state-of-the-art greenfield terminal will be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Moreover, Prime Minister Modi unveiled the 'Amrit Kaal Vision 2047,' a comprehensive blueprint for the Indian maritime blue economy.
The Global Maritime India Summit stands as the most significant maritime event hosted by the nation. Its inaugural edition took place in Mumbai in 2016, followed by a virtual event in 2021. The third summit, spanning from October 17 to 19, is being held at MMRDA Grounds in Mumbai.
Over three days, the summit's discussions will encompass critical maritime issues, including the future of ports, decarbonization, coastal shipping, inland water transportation, shipbuilding, repair, and recycling, as well as finance, insurance, arbitration, maritime clusters, innovation, technology, safety, security, and maritime tourism. Furthermore, the event offers a strategic platform to attract investments into India's maritime sector.
