During its tenure at the helm of the G20, New Delhi spearheaded a resurgence in multilateralism, amplifying the Global South's voice, prioritizing development, and advocating for women's empowerment.

Today marks a significant milestone, as it has been 365 days since India took on the G20 presidency. This moment calls for reflection, renewed dedication, and a revival of the ethos encapsulated in "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam" (One Earth, One Family, One Future). When India assumed this responsibility a year ago, the world was grappling with multifaceted challenges: recovering from the Covid-19 pandemic, grappling with imminent climate crises, facing financial instability, and witnessing debt distress in developing nations. All this occurred against the backdrop of declining multilateral cooperation. Amid conflicts and rivalries, collaborative development efforts were hindered, impeding global progress.

As the G20 Chair, India aimed to present an alternative paradigm, shifting the focus from GDP-centric growth to a more human-centric approach. The goal was to emphasize commonalities rather than differences, urging the global community to prioritize the aspirations of the many over the interests of a few. This necessitated a fundamental reformation of traditional multilateral structures.

Our approach as the G20 president can be defined by four key attributes: inclusivity, ambition, action-orientation, and decisiveness. The New Delhi Leaders' Declaration (NDLD), unanimously embraced by all G20 members, stands as evidence of our unwavering commitment to embodying these principles. Inclusivity has been the cornerstone of our presidency. By integrating the African Union (AU) as a permanent member of the G20, we brought 55 African nations into the fold, expanding the forum's reach to encompass 80% of the global population. This proactive stance has facilitated a more comprehensive dialogue on global challenges and opportunities.

India, under PM Modi's leadership, has laid the groundwork for a new era of multilateralism during its G20 stewardship, emphasizing cooperation, unity, and a collective vision for a better world.
