In the month of April, there has been a tremendous decline in the activities of India's service sector. The services PMI of the country has come down to 5.4 in April. While the service PMI of the country was at 49.3 in the month of March. India's Composite PMI has come down to 7.2 in the month of April. It was 50.6 in the month of March. The PMI shows growth above 50 and below 50 shows the slowdown. The fall of PMI in this way indicates a major crisis on the economy.

This decline in the activities of the service sector has been seen due to the outbreak of Coronavirus and lockdown. Significantly, the entire lockdown is in force in the country since 25 March. Due to this, the entire April month has been lockdown in the country. In this lockdown, all industrial and trade services except essential goods and essential services were closed. The government has implemented the third phase lockdown from Monday, which will remain till May 17. However, some relaxation has also been given in the lockdown according to the red, orange and green zones.

Due to the virus outbreak and lockdown, the service sector of India has recorded the biggest decline in business activity in the month of April on a monthly basis in 14 years. However, in the month of February, the service PMI of India was recorded fast. In India, the service PMI for the month of February was at the level of 57.5. The composite PMI was at the level of 57.6. In February, the service PMI of the country came to the highest level after January 2013.
