NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated on Tuesday that India has a clear view on the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, emphasising that New Delhi "urges a cease of hostilities, return to talks, and national sovereignty."
During a discussion at the Raisina Dialogue, Jaishankar stated that the crisis in Ukraine is currently one of the most prominent crises, "not only because of the interests or ideals at stake, but also because of the global consequences." "And there's a big world out there where keeping a rules-based order is frequently a challenge."
In response to a question on India's position on the war, he stated: "When the rules-based system in Asia was under attack, Europe's advice was to increase commerce. At the very least, we are not advising you to do so." He also remarked that what occurred in Afghanistan was a clear demonstration of the rule-based order.
"We must find a means to return to diplomacy, and in order to do so, we must put an end to the war." Responding to the war's long-term effects, the Minister stated that "there would be no winners" and that the immediate concern is the impact on oil and food prices.
"The shocks that the international order is facing, particularly in the last two years of the Covid 19 pandemic, Afghanistan and Ukraine, and the tension between the West and Russia, the US and China," Jaishankar said when asked what "three things keep him up at night." He also stated that Ukraine is not a precedent for China; similar events have been taking place in Asia without Europe's attention for the past decade.
