Bhopal: Indore, the number one city in cleanliness in the country, has added yet another breakthrough to its account. Indore city has bagged the first position in the West Zone in the awards given by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India. President Ram Nath Kovind presented the award to MP Shankar Lalwani and District Magistrate Manish Singh. In the West Zone, the Indore district has been ranked first and the Vadodara in Gujarat and the Banswara district of Rajasthan have jointly got the second position.
Indore has received this award for the best work done in the year 2021. For this, a team of senior officers of the Central Ground Water Board was sent by the Central Government. The team had observed the works related to water conservation and reuse of water in rural and urban areas of the city and thereafter such a recommendation was made.
The Ministry was very impressed with the work of ridgeline and drainage line treatment in Durjanpura and Yashwantnagar gram panchayats of Indore city. At the same time, the Central Team also appreciated the work of groundwater recharge under Kabitkhedi STP Plant, Kanadia Lake Conservation and Watershed Project at Village Bhagora. The evaluation of the award was contributed by the treatment and construction work carried out in the catchment area of The Kanad and Gambhir rivers in the watershed development scheme of the Rural Development Department in the district, plantation of rural areas under MGNREGA, water harvesting and watershed work constructed under 'Ketch the Rain' campaign in the district. In addition, efforts were made to include roof water harvesting works, Bawri restoration etc.
