Indore: In Madhya Pradesh, local body elections are going to be held shortly thereafter but it can go ahead once again. In fact, after the Gwalior bench of the State High Court, the Indore bench on Monday also stayed the reservation notification issued on 10th December 2020 for municipal corporations, municipalities, and Nagar panchayats. On Saturday itself, the Gwalior bench had stayed the notification and said, "The government has not followed the rotation process in the reservation, while it should be adhered to. After the orders of both the benches, the local body elections in the state may now be delayed."

Narottam Chaudhary and Surendra Verma, a councilor in the Hatod Nagar Parishad, have filed a petition through advocate Bhaskar Agarwal in the Indore Bench of the High Court. The petition filed by him says, "Some wards of Hatod Nagar Parishad are reserved for one section from the last several elections. Due to this, the non-reserved category person is not getting the opportunity to represent these wards. It is not correct." The Constitution also says 'that the rotation pattern should be followed in the reservation so that all sections of the people get an opportunity to represent. But, at present, the constitution is not being followed.'

The plea was heard last Monday before the divisional Bench of Justice Sujai Pal and Justice Shailendra Shukla. In the meantime, the petitioner also submitted a copy of the order issued by the Gwalior Bench of the MP High Court last Saturday in which the court stayed the notification issued on 10th December 2020. The court stayed the notification issued on December 10, 2020, after hearing the petitioner's arguments.
