Indore, a historic Lok Sabha constituency established since 1952, has witnessed a colorful political journey over the decades.

Phase 4 of the Madhya Pradesh Lok Sabha Election 2024 is set for May 13. On this day, people in different constituencies across Madhya Pradesh will cast their votes to elect their representatives in the Lok Sabha.

Back in 1989, during the fervor of the Ram Janmabhoomi movement that stirred the nation, Indore became a focal point for contrasting political strategies. The Congress, sensing the significance of the moment, nominated Prakash Chandra Shetti, the then Chief Minister of the state, hoping to capitalize on his incumbency. Meanwhile, the BJP, sensing the changing winds, introduced a fresh face, Sumitra Mahajan, fondly called "Tai", into the political arena. This move symbolized a clash of ideologies and strategies, with Shetti representing traditional Congress politics and Mahajan embodying the BJP's aspirations for expansion.

Mahajan's victory in 1989 marked the start of a remarkable political journey spanning three decades, eventually leading her to the role of Lok Sabha Speaker.

In recent times, the BJP has maintained its dominance in the Indore Lok Sabha constituency. In the 2019 elections, Shankar Lalwani secured a significant victory for the BJP, reaffirming its stronghold. Lalwani garnered a whopping 1,068,569 votes, leaving Congress candidate Pankaj Sanghvi trailing far behind with 520,815 votes.

This trend was evident even earlier, in 2014, when Sumitra Mahajan secured a landslide victory over Satyanarayan Patel of the Congress, receiving 854,972 votes, which amounted to nearly 65% of the total votes.

In the current election cycle, the BJP's Shankar Lalwani is the prominent candidate, as Akshay Kanti Bam from the Indian National Congress has withdrawn his nomination.
