Bhopal: Repolling will take place at four booths in Madhya Pradesh's Betul Lok Sabha constituency on Friday, as confirmed by an official on Thursday. The decision came after the Election Commission ordered a re-election at these booths due to damage caused to electronic voting machines (EVMs). The incident occurred when a bus transporting the EVMs and polling personnel caught fire after voting concluded on Tuesday night near Sonora Gaula village in Betul.

The repolling is scheduled to be conducted from 7 am to 6 pm on Friday at the following locations: Government Integrated High School in Rajapur, Government Integrated High School in Raiyat, Government Primary School in Kunda, Raiyat, and Government Integrated High School in Chikhlimal. These booths fall within the Multai assembly segment of the Betul parliamentary constituency.

During the repolling, voters will have their left middle finger inked, as per the official instructions. Additionally, a dry day and holiday have been declared in the areas where repolling will occur.

Polling teams departed on Thursday after procuring necessary materials from the Government Integrated Girls School at Betul Ganj to conduct the re-election exercise, the official added.

Earlier on Tuesday, an estimated 72.65 percent voter turnout was recorded in the Betul Lok Sabha constituency during the general elections. Betul was one of the nine seats in Madhya Pradesh that voted in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections.

In the Betul constituency, eight candidates are contesting, with BJP MP Durgadas Uikey facing competition from Ramu Tekam of the Congress party. Notably, the BJP has been securing victory in the Betul seat since 1996.
