Pakistan's star all-rounder Shoaib Malik will play no further part in his team's tour of New Zealand after suffering a head injury during the fourth one day internatonal in Hamilton on Tuesday. Veteran Pakistani batsmen Shoaib Malik suffered a concussion and missed the fifth ODI even as New Zealand whitewashed Pakistan 5-0. He will fly back to Pakistan and will miss the three-match Twenty20 international series against New Zealand starting on Monday. He was hit on the head by a Colin Munro throw while taking a run.

Malik had walked out to bat in the 31st over, and as New Zealand had spinners bowling from both ends, the former Pakistan captain decided to bat without a helmet. In the very next over, he pushed a Mitchell Santner delivery and set off for a run, but was promptly refused by his partner Mohammad Hafeez. While Malik was trying to scamper back to his crease, Munro took a shot at the stumps from wide of cover. The throw ended up hitting Malik on the back of his head and the ball ricocheted off to the boundary. The Pakistan Cricket Board said in a statement that the Pakistan team management including the captain, head coach, manager had held a meeting with team physiotherapist, VB Singh and Malik to discuss his participation in the T20 series.
