New Delhi: Indian Navy's first destroyer, INS Rajput, is all set to retire after 41 years on Friday, May 21. The Ministry of Defence has informed about this. Tell us that INS Rajput is the first destroyer of the Indian Navy and was the ship that led the Kashin class destroyer. INS Rajput, produced by the then USSR, was first commissioned on May 4, 1980, and has served the Indian Navy for more than 41 years.
INS Rajput will be discharged at a function at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. The celebrations due to the global epidemic Corona virus will be a simple event, which will include only in-station officers and sailors, in which the Covid protocol will be strictly followed. INS Rajput was built at 61 Communals Shipyard in Nikolave (now Ukraine) under his original Russian name 'Nadezni' which means 'Hope'.
It was launched on September 17, 1977. The Ministry said that during its four decades of excellent service to the country, the ship has the distinction of serving in both western and eastern fleets. With the motto of 'Raj Kareega Rajput' and indomitable spirit, the heroic contingent of INS Rajput has always been vigilant and always 'on call' to protect the maritime interest and sovereignty of the country.
