New Delhi: November 7 Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced on Wednesday that an Inter-faith Center will be set up at Guru Nanak Dev University in Punjab at a cost of Rs 493 crore. Pokhriyal was addressing a program at Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College of Delhi University. Union Minister Pokhriyal and his cabinet colleague Harsimrat Kaur Badal released three books based on his teachings to commemorate the 550th festival of Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev.

In today's world full of complexities, the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev are appropriate and youth around the world need to adopt his philosophy of humanity, equality and 'one God'. Originally published in Punjabi, three books "Guru Nanak Bani", "Nanak Bani", and "Sakhiyan Guru Nanak Dev" have been translated into 15 major Indian languages. "Guru Nanak Bani", compiled by Bhai Jodh Singh, is a collection of select verses from the original Bani of Guru Nanak Dev. "Nanak Bani" compiled by Manjit Singh contains five major compositions (Panch Baniyan) of Sikh Guru. The biography of Guru Nanak is considered 'Janamsakhi' (birth stories). 'Sakhiya Guru Nanak' compiled by Jagatarjit Singh is based on a book on the life stories of Guru Nanak Dev.

Guru Nanak Dev was born in 1469 in Sri Nankana Sahib (present-day Pakistan). He undertook spiritual journeys to India, South Asia, Tibet, and Arabia to spread love and harmony in the society. He has written his messages in the holy book "Guru Granth Sahib" of Sikhism, in November last year, the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi passed a resolution to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev's 550th nationwide in 2019.
