One such great ruler and warrior was Rana Kumbha, also known as Maharana Kumbhakarna or Kumbhakarna Singh. From the year 1433 to 1468 he was the king of Mewar. Apart from the war, Rana Kumbha is remembered in history for the construction of many fortifications and temples. His architectural era is known as Swarnakal. The world-famous 'Kirti Stambh' located in Chittor was established by Rana Kumbha.

You will be surprised to know that out of 84 forts built in Mewar, 32 forts were built by Rana Kumbha. Chittorgarh, Kumbhalgarh, Achalgarh, Machan Durg, Bhasath Fort and Basantgarh are important and grand among the 32 forts built by him at a young age of just 35 years. He is also called the modern builder of the Chittor fort, because he built most of the present part of the fort. The second longest wall in the world, the fort outside which was also built by Rana Kumbha. It is known as the fort of Kumbhalgarh and the wall is the 'wall of Kumbhalgarh'. It is also said that the construction of this fort took a long time of 15 years. You will be surprised to know that there are more than 360 temples inside this fort, out of which 300 are ancient Jain temples and the rest are Hindu temples.

Rana Kumbha also used to collect taxes from powerful royalty like Amber and Hadauti. Although Rana Kumbha was also a moderate ruler. It is said that wherever he saw people troubled by thirst in his reign, he used to get the pond dug there. He built a large number of ponds during his reign. His history was not only limited to victory in wars, but his creativity was also amazing. 'Sangeet Raj' is his great work, which is considered to be the 'Kirti Pillar' of literature. According to some historians, Rana Kumbha also wrote a book similar to Kamasutra. The kind of idols in Khajuraho, similar statues were built by him in his reign.
