The festival of Nag Panchami has special significance in Hinduism. The whole country celebrates this festival. On this day, people observe fast and methodically worship the Nag Devta in temples or at home. The special festival of Nagpanchami is completely dedicated to the Nag Devta, which is celebrated every year on the fifth day of the Shukla Paksha of Sawan month. People place milk in a bowl on the side of the house for the Nag Devta on this day, and the practice of making a statue or picture of the Nag-Devta at the main entrance of the house is also practised on this day.

The history of Nag-Devata is from the Vaidil period. The Puranas also mention the existence of the Nag-Devta. It is also described in the Puranas that this entire earth rests on Sheshnag. According to the Puranas, the Nag-Devta is the lord of the Hades. Vishnu rests on Sheshnag and Vasuki resides with Lord Bholenath. The snake of Shiva is named Vasuki. The Nag-Devta is also called ‘Kshetrapala’ because of protecting our land and fields. It is said that feeding Nag on this day is auspicious. However, this is unfair from a scientific point of view. Milk can cause death for toxic organisms. Therefore, if milk is not given to snakes on this day, it would be better.
