INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY: Know History, significance and more

International Dance Day is on April 29, so put on your dancing shoes and get ready to go out. The art of dancing is widespread and present in almost all cultures worldwide. People absolutely adore dancing. Whether we are the ones dancing or are just watching others perform professionally, it unites us. Dancing is thrilling and amazing. Together, let's celebrate the dancing community today!

To  recognise the incredible diversity and talent of dancers around the world, the International Theatre Institute (ITI) Dance Committee set up  April 29 as International Dance Day in 1982. This day was chosen because it is Jean-Georges Noverre's (1727–1810) birthday, who founded modern ballet.

The International Theatre Institute make this holiday to promote dance across the world, so as  to make people aware of the value of dance, and to enable the dance community to encourge their work on a broad scale.

It is hoped that governments and opinion leaders will encourage dance by becoming more and more aware of its value and significance. In addition to all of this, International Dance Day was established so that we might just appreciate dance for what it is and spread the joy.

The International Theatre Institute chooses an outstanding dancer or choreographer to compose the official holiday message each year. The location of their annual gala as well as other publicly promoted events across the world are listed on their website.

Dancing has been documented for over 9,000 years and has spread to become an international phenomenon. This holiday promotes learning new dance forms as well as celebrating one's favourite kind.  There are dancing forms for individuals of all ages and rhythmic skills, so there is no reason why you can't participate.

Dr. Ashish Pillai, a classical dancer from Indore, was honoured at Bala Saraswati International Dance Festival 2022 held in Kerala, which adds to the glory of INTERNATIONAL DANCE DAY 2023.
