A two-day International Tribal Film Festival is due to begin in Arunachal Pradesh, bringing together the beauty and culture of North East tribes. It will take place in the village of Dirang and will feature films and documentaries about tribal art and culture at Picturetime's MDMT theatres. Sushil Chaudhary, Founder and CEO of Picturetime Digiplex, believes that the goal is to offer a satisfying cinematic experience to regions and interiors of the country where such an experience is still a dream.
"By bringing our theatre to the lovely and secluded valley of Dirang, Arunachal Pradesh, we have reached another another milestone." With this, we continue our quest of bringing films to the doorsteps of India's interiors." The Assamese film 'Semkhor' (in Dimasa language) and 'Crossing Bridges,' which received the National Film Award for best film film in Shertukpen language in 2013, are among the films that will be shown during the festival (Shertukpen, which is an indigenous dialect native to the state Arunachal Pradesh).
"A Dog and His Man," the National Award-winning Khasi film Onataah, the acclaimed 2021 bilingual Manipuri film or "Sijou," a Bodo language film that shed light on the inhumane brutality of the feudal land tenure system prevalent across the Indo-Bhutan border until 1958, and others will be part of the festival.
"Everyone deserves a multiplex-type movie watching experience in a nation like ours, where the love for cinema is unrivalled." Sushil says, "The Worldwide Tribal Film Festival will also be a terrific venue for young creative filmmakers from the region to engage with their international counterparts."
Another important aspect of the festival will be panel discussions on the importance of tribal Films and the Pros and Cons of shooting in Northeast. One of the highlights of the festival would be an interactive session with the National Award-winning sound designer from the region, Debajit Gayan. Organised by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh and supported by Directorate of Film Festivals ,Information & Broadcasting Ministry, Govt of India, ITFF, a two-day festival, will start on March 5.
