New Delhi: The number of Internet users in the country has increased by 3.4 percent to 74.3 million in the quarter ended March 2020. According to the report released by the telecom regulator TRAI on the quarterly performance of the sector, Reliance Jio with 52.3 per cent market share in the quarter ended March 2020, came in first, while Bharti Airtel was second with 23.6 per cent share.
Vodafone Idea ranked third in the period under review. Based on the number of Internet users, its market share stood at 18.7 percent. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report, "The number of internet users in the quarter ended December 2019 was 71.874 crores, an increase of 3.40 per cent in March 2020 to 74.319 crores". The number of users was 72.07 crore, which is 97 percent of the total internet users. At the same time, the number of customers using internet with wire was 2.24 crore. According to the report, 92.5 percent of the total internet users use broadband for internet.
The number of customers using broadband was 68.74 crore while the number of 'narrowband' users was 5.57 crore. According to TRAI's report Indicators of Performance of Indian Telecom Services, January-March 2020, "Broadband Internet users grew by 3.85 percent to 68.744 crores in March 2020 from 66.194 crores in December 2019.
