Kolkata: The BJP on Thursday constituted a five-member committee to probe the attacks on its workers during protests in West Bengal and demanded that the state government take strict action against the culprits. The committee also includes four MPs. Former Uttar Pradesh DGPs Brij Lal and Sameer Oraon, Lok Sabha members Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Aparajita Sarangi and BJP leader from Punjab Sunil Jakhar are members of the inquiry committee, the party said in a statement.

On the other hand, Bengal BJP unit president Sukanta Majumdar has announced a block-level protest today (Friday) against the police action during the Nabanna campaign. The BJP has accused the West Bengal government of committing police atrocities on its members during the party's protest march in Kolkata. Both BJP and TMC are at loggerheads over the issue. On the other hand, former BJP's West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh on Thursday targeted TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Dilip Ghosh has said that Abhishek Banerjee should tell if he carries a gun. A Kolkata Police ACP-rank officer was brutally beaten up by BJP workers during the BJP's secretariat campaign last Tuesday, to whom CM Mamata Banerjee's nephew and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee went to SSKM Hospital on Wednesday evening. There he had said that if I was in place of the officer, I would have shot in the middle of the head of BJP workers.
