New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and veteran Congress leader P. Chidambaram has been granted bail from the Supreme Court in the INX Media case. P. Chidambaram has been granted bail on a personal bond of one lakh in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case. However, it is worth noting that even after this bail, Chidambaram will remain in Tihar Jail, as he is in the custody of Enforcement Directorate (ED) till 24 October.

While granting bail to Chidambaram, the court said that if P Chidambaram is not required in any other case, only then can he be released. But in a separate ED case from the CBI, P. Chidambaram is in custody, so he will have to remain in jail. While granting bail to Chidambaram, the court has also placed a condition that the Congress leaders will not leave the country and go out.

Let us tell you that earlier the CBI had told the Supreme Court on Friday that Chidambaram should not be granted bail in this case till the trial of this case starts and the statements of important witnesses are recorded. On behalf of Chidambaram, his lawyer Kapil Sibal tried to assure the court that Chidambaram would not leave the country.
