IPL 2018: Fifth match may cancel over Cauvery protests

CHENNAI: As per the reports of TOI ahead of IPL 11 fifth match, Members of the Tamizhaga Vazhvurimai Katchi on Tuesday staged a protest outside Chepauk stadium where an IPL 2018 match between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders is scheduled to be held at Tonight 8 PM. The outfit members, who were protesting against the Centre’s failure to constitute a Cauvery management board, demanded the match should be called off.

Due to Cauvery protests at IPL venue in Chennai, It is the possibility that match would cancel.

In spite of massive security around the stadium, the protesters managed to get to the gate number one and tried to lock it. They managed to reach the gate through MRTS station, Police picked up eight of them as per the sources.

Over 5,000 policemen have been deployed for security around the stadium. In addition, Roads leading to the stadium, including Wallajah Road and Bharathi Salai, were also barricaded.

 Heavy Police arrangements beefed up for security at Crowne Plaza and Radisson Blu hotels where the cricketers reside.

Bomb disposal force was monitoring the stadium. No bags, bottles, laptops, binoculars, cameras, gadgets with dry cell batteries and food and drink from outside would be allowed inside the stadium, police said.
