Royal Challengers Bangalore confirmed on Monday that all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a finger injury, which begins on September 19.

During India's current tour of England in July, Washington Sundar suffered a fracture on his finger during a first-class practice match. When he was playing for County Select XI versus India in a warm-up game, he was hit in the finger. Mohammed Siraj's time in England came to an end with a bouncer after he was selected as one of India's specialized all-rounders for the 5-Test series in England.

On Monday, the RCB named a replacement for Washington Sundar. As a substitute, Akash Deep, a state cricketer from Bengal and a net bowler for the franchise, was chosen. The decision "reinforces RCB's commitment to developing and fostering young players as the franchise continues to cultivate outstanding skills and offer a route for new stars to make their way into the IPL and Indian cricket," RCB said in a statement.

Washingon Sundar has been an important component of Royal Challengers Bangalore's powerplay, bowling vital overs. In the IPL, he has appeared in 42 games, taking 27 wickets at an excellent economy rate of just over 6. Sundar began his IPl career with Rising Pune Supergiant before he went to RCB in IPL 2018. RCB bought the all-rounder back in IPL 2021 auction for a price of Rs. 3.2 crore.
