Ahmedabad: The final of the Indian Premier League  (IPL) 2023 was on Sunday moved to the reserved day after relentless rains delayed the toss and subsequently the start of the summit showdown Ahemedabad  .

The announcement was made at 10:55 pm local time. With the weather forecast not being too promising for the final on Sunday, it only kept getting worse for the fans who had turned up to pack the house. It began raining here in the evening half an hour before the toss time - around 6:30 pm local time - and did not stop for longer durations at least for the next two-and-a-half hours.

Howeverf, the rain did stop after 9:00 p.m. local time, and the covers were removed. Two super soppers had been working since about 8:30 p.m. IST. The players had begun warming up, but a strong downpour forced them off the pitch and the ground crew to cover it once more. The ground personnel would have needed more than an hour to clear the substantial puddles that were present on the outfield's exposed areas and on the covers, supposing the rain had ceased. According to the rules, the IPL final has a reserve day, which in this year's instance is Monday, May 29, in case the game cannot begin by the cut-off time of 12:06am; in that case, there will be a five-overs per-side match. There are no such forecasts for rain for Monday, so a 20-20 over match is quite possible.
