New Delhi: Virat Kohli, the acting captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has suffered a major setback despite winning the match against Rajasthan Royals (RR). Not only Kohli but the entire team has been fined heavily. In fact, during the match against RR on Sunday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, there was a big lapse from the Bangalore team. The RCB team had failed to bowl their 20 overs in the stipulated time. After which, along with Kohli and the playing XI, impact player Faf Duplessis has also been fined 25 per cent of his match fee.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced its decision through a press release on Monday evening. This was the RCB team's second offense of the season under the IPL's code of conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences. For this reason, a penalty of Rs 24 lakh has been imposed on Virat and fine has been imposed on every member of the team. The entire playing XI, including the impact substitute, has been fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of the match fee, whichever is less.
On the other hand, if we talk about the match, RCB had scored 189 runs by losing nine wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium among the home crowd. In response, RR could only manage 182 runs in the allotted 20 overs and fell short of the target by 7 runs. Glenn Maxwell and Faf Duplessis starred with the bat, while Harshal Patel top-scored with three wickets for 32 runs in four overs.
