Afghan migrant immersed in river in Iranian border, 18 bodies recovered

Kabul: More than eighteen bodies of Afghan migrants allegedly submerged in the river have been found near the borders of the two countries by security personnel of Iran. After this, the total number of dead has increased to 34. Tolo News reported on Saturday that Herat province officials said they had found 18 more bodies.

An official said that an Afghan delegation has started an investigation into the incident in Gulran district. According to the Foreign Ministry, giving information in preliminary assessments, it is reported that at least 70 Afghans trying to enter Iran from the border of Herat province were killed and pushed into the Harirud River last week. Explain that the Basin of Harirud River is shared by the three countries Afghanistan, Iran and Turkmenistan.

Earlier, last week, an Afghan official said that 16 Afghan civilians have been rescued so far, while 18 to 20 are still missing. On May 7, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that these reports had made him extremely 'sad' and urged the Afghan government to do a 'full investigation' on it.
