Iran: On Monday, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman accused the United States of "delaying" indirect talks to revive the 2015 nuclear deal and claimed a prisoner swap unrelated to talks with Washington Was.

Nasser Kanani told a news conference that there were only a few issues to be resolved, but they were important.
"The Americans are delaying, and the European sides are doing nothing... a deal is needed more than Iran, the US and Europe," he claimed.

According to the Canaanites, Tehran wanted a permanent settlement that would protect its legal rights.

"We emphasize that prisoner exchanges with Washington are a separate issue and have nothing to do with the ongoing negotiations to revive the 2015 agreement," he said.

The US has on several occasions demanded the release of several Iranian-Americans detained in Iran on security-related charges. Iran has demanded the release of several Iranians who have been detained on suspicion of violating US sanctions.

If the deal were to be revived, Iran has sought assurances that no future US president would violate it, as did then-US President Donald Trump in 2018 when he reinstated harsh US sanctions against Iran .

However, because the agreement is a political understanding rather than a legally binding treaty, President Joe Biden is unable to make such unwavering guarantees.

While the US reacts to Tehran's position on the most recent proposal, Biden along with other Western leaders sought to revive the nuclear deal with Iran.

On Sunday, Biden held talks with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The original agreement was signed by the four countries as well as Russia and China.

The quartet spoke about "ongoing talks" toward a deal, including "the need to strengthen support for partners in the Middle East region," according to a US summary of the call released on Sunday.

The readout said the four leaders also discussed "general efforts to prevent and disrupt Iran's destabilizing regional activities". He also spoke about the current situation in Ukraine and vowed to continue supporting the country as it resists Russian aggression.

The discussions will go on. On 15 August, Iran responded to a deal-making framework operationalized by the European Union, which the EU viewed as positive. The US is silent about its stance on Iran's position.

According to State Department spokesman Ned Price on Thursday, we are still watching Iran's response to the EU proposal. The agreement that has been on the table since March and that Iran has been in a position to accept since March, if it had the political will to do so, was the basis for a large part of the initial EU proposal.

According to a report by Saturday Axios, the US is trying to address Israel's concerns about a possible deal. It is unclear how dedicated Sunday's call was to the need to support Middle East partners, given that the US has de-escalated tensions.

Price said on August 18 that the US and Israel "look at this overarching priority of ensuring that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon."

Iran, which has long denied such aspirations, has threatened any Israeli strike with "crushing" retaliation.
