LONDON: A commander of IRGC intelligence in the south-eastern province of Sistan and Balochistan has been killed in clashes with anti-revolutionary elements who opened fire near a mosque in the provincial capital Zahedan.

An armed group gathered near Makki Masjid and opened fire after a terrorist attack on a police station in Zahedan on Friday, forcing security forces to rush to the scene.

IRGC Commander Ali Mousavi was shot in the chest and was taken to the hospital. But his wound eventually took his life.

Additionally, Sistan and Balochistan Governor Hossein Modares Khiabani reported that at least 19 people, including police officers, were killed and 20 were injured in the terrorist attack on the police station.

The police station was attacked by "several rioters linked to terrorist and separatist groups whose identities are clear," according to him. They pelted stones and started firing, to which the police got a strong response.

Militants also set fire to a bank, a fire brigade, an emergency station and other buildings in the city, but their efforts to continue the riots were unsuccessful due to the early arrival of security personnel.

Taking responsibility for the attack in Zahedan, the terrorist organization Jaish al-Zulm has given a statement.
