Kamil's voyage to the glitzy world of Bollywood began when producer Lekh Tandon brought him to Mumbai. Initially, he embarked on a career in television, crafting scripts for popular soap operas like "Na Jaiyao Pardes," "Kahan Se Kahan Tak," and contributing dialogue to Manish Goswami's serial "Kartavya." His association with the talented musician Sandesh Shandilya marked the inception of his Bollywood lyricist journey.

His debut as a Bollywood lyricist came with the movie "Chameli" in 2004, followed by "Shabd" and "Socha Na Tha" in 2005. This marked the beginning of a prolific career, where he penned soul-stirring lyrics for films such as "Ahista Ahista," "Jab We Met," "Aa Dekhen Zara," "Khatta Meetha," "Action Replayy," "Son of Sardar," "Cocktail," "Aashiqui 2," and "Raanjhnaa," to name just a few.

Awards and Accolades

Irshad Kamil's lyrical brilliance didn't go unnoticed. His songs, including "Chor Bazari" and "Aaj Din Chadheya" from "Love Aaj Kal" (2009), garnered widespread acclaim and numerous awards. However, his crowning achievement came in the form of the Filmfare Award for Best Lyrics for "Naadaan Parindey" from Imtiaz Ali's magnum opus "Rockstar" in 2011.

"Musings: Mosaic" showcases his poetry alongside that of 53 other celebrated poets, including luminaries like Gulzar, Ruskin Bond, Shashi Tharoor, and Deepti Naval. Another anthology, "Interlinks," features Kamil's poetry alongside renowned figures like Kapil Sibal, Shekhar Kapoor, Vikram Seth, and the late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
