The Supreme Court of India heard Ranveer Allahabadia’s case on Tuesday over his controversial remarks during appearance on ‘India’s got latent’ show. It heard the influencer’s petition seeking consolidation against the multiple FIRs being lodged against him. Allahabadia is represented by lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud, son of former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud. The judge bench hearing the case comprised of Justice Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh.

Here is all what the Supreme Court said at the hearing:

“There is something very dirty in his mind…”

The judge bench expressed strong condemnation and disapproval with Ranveer Allahabadia’s remarks. Criticizing and lashing out, it said, “Such behavior must be condemned. Just because somebody thinks he becomes so popular and can speak any kind of words, can take entire society for granted? Is there anyone on Earth who will like this language? There is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited.”

Further adding, “In the name of freedom of speech, no one has license to speak whatever they want against norms of society. Words you have used will make daughters, sisters, parents and even society feel ashamed. If this is not obscenity, what is it? Why should we quash or club FIRs against you?”

Interim relief

The Supreme Court has however granted Ranveer Allahabadia an interim relief after his lawyer Abhinav Chandrachud emphasized about the death threats given to his client and family. The court has given permission for police protection to the influencer in Maharashtra and Assam, where the FIRs were being filed. He can approach Maharashtra or Assam police for protection.

No further FIRs to be filed

The Supreme Court stated that there will be no further FIRs filed against Allahabadia with respect to the episode of India’s got latent that he featured in. The court said, “If any other FIR is lodged against Allahabadia over his comments, he shall not be arrested.”

FIRs have been filed against Ranveer Allahabadia by Maharashtra Cyber Department, Guwahati Police and Jaipur Police over his remarks in the show. Earlier, the Mumbai and Guwahati Police had said that the podcaster was “constantly out of contact with the investigative agencies.”

No further episodes

The Supreme Court has directed Allahabadia and other influencers not to upload or shoot any episode of the controversial show until further notified. The case is being investigated by the cyber cell. Along with this, the court has also ordered Allahabadia to deposit his passport in Thane, Maharashtra and asked him not to leave the country without prior permission of the court.

India’s got Latent host Samay Raina had also issued a public apology on his handle, saying that he is removing all the episodes from his channel.
