Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandana starrer Chhava, a period drama has made an impressive debut at the box office this Friday. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar is said to have broken multiple records upon its release.

Chhava released this Valentine’s Day, becoming the biggest opening of 2025. It becomes the highest grossing Indian film on Valentine’s Day, surpassing Gully Boy which had the record till date. Moreover, the film is Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opener till date. His last was Uri: The Surgical strike which earned 8.20 crore on the first day.

Chhava made an impressive run on the opening day with Rs 31 crore across all languages, as per Sacnilk. It’s overall occupancy in Hindi stood at 35.17% on the first day. Gully Boy earned 19.40 crore on first day of its release on Valentine’s Day.

Akshay Kumar’s Skyforce that released in January this year was by far the biggest opener of 2025. It earned 15.30 crore on its opening during the Republic Day weekend.

As of Day 2 also, the film is maintaining the similar momentum with 2.31 crore until noon. It is estimated that Chhava will attract more footfall until the end of the weekend. It is receiving positive reviews and is critically acclaimed as well for its grand visuals and gripping storyline. It will likely emerge as a top box-office contender, reaching new records.

The historical film Chhava is produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock films and is based on Maratha king Sambhaji, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with Vicky playing the titular character. It is based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant.  Rashmika Mandana portrays the role of Maharani Yesubai. The film also stars Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai. Chhava is an AR Rahman musical, with lyrics by Irshad Kamil.
