Ranveer Allahabadia moves to SC, seeking relief in FIR filing against him over ‘India’s got Latent’ remark

Youtuber Ranveer Allahabadia has now approached Supreme Court seeking relief in the multiple FIRs filed against him after ‘India’s got Latent’ show remark.

Allahabadia’s advocate Abhinav Chandrachud appeared in the Supreme Court representing the case in front of a bench presided by The Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sanjiv Khanna. The bench has said the case will be listed for a hearing soon. The advocate mentioned about the case filed in Assam, being probed by the police with an apprehension of arrest.  

Not only Ranveer Allahabadia, other influencers who participated in the judge panel of India’s got Latent show are also a part of the controversy. FIRs have been lodged against them too. This includes comedian Samay Raina, content creator Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Makhija known as the ‘Rebel kid’, actor-comedian Jaspreet Singh as well as the show’s producers.

The controversy erupted during the sixth episode of India’s got Latent, when Allahabadia questioned a contestant, “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life, or join in once to stop it forever?” A video of this quickly went viral on social media receiving severe backlash and criticism on social media. Several celebrities, political leaders as well as netizens condemned the remarks and demanded strict action against those involved.

An FIR was first lodged in Assam against the artists for promoting obscenity and engaging in sexually explicit and vulgar discussion, followed by Maharashtra Cyber Department registering another one in Mumbai. The Cyber Department had found the show using “vulgar and obscene” language booking 30 people, charging it under relevant sections of the IT Act and had even sought for the removal of all of its episodes. The National Commission of Women (NCW) had also issued summons against all the content creators and influencers involved. The hearing for which is scheduled on 17th February 2025.

Ranveer Allahabadia has however issued an apology calling it all as a “lapse in judgement”. Samay Raina also took to his social media handles saying all that is happening is too much for him to handle and he is removing all India’s got Latent videos from Youtube. He further ensured to cooperate with the investigative agencies. Samay Raina's upcoming show in Ahmedabad has also ben cancelled owing to the controversy.
