AMMAN:: According to a statement from Jordan's Foreign Ministry, Israel bears full responsibility for the "severe repercussions" of the escalating tensions at the Al-Aqsa mosque site in Jerusalem.
Israel's ongoing efforts to alter the historical and legal status quo of the Al-Aqsa mosque are a grave infringement of international law, undermining all efforts to keep the cease-fire in place for regional peace and security, according to Foreign Ministry spokesman Haitham Abu Al-Foul.
Condemning Israel's raid on Al-Aqsa mosque and expulsion of worshippers, Al-Foul asked the international community to take responsibility and act quickly to encourage Israel to halt such activities, according to the Xinhua news agency.
Both Muslims and Jews revere the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, which they refer to as the Temple Mount. The Jordanian royal family is currently in charge of the mosque.
