Jerusalem: Israel and Hamas have agreed to a ceasefire after an 11-day murderous conflict. More than 200 Palestinians and 12 Israelis have been killed in the conflict between the two. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu's office declared a ceasefire and the security cabinet in its statement called it "mutual and unconditional."

Netanyahu's office said Israel approved Egypt's proposal after a late-night meeting of its security cabinet. Hamas followed suit immediately and said it would respect the deal. Hamas confirmed that the ceasefire will come into effect from 6 am (Indian time) on Friday. The Israeli Cabinet in its announcement said that the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire was unanimously agreed upon and that it had achieved many "great achievements" from its campaign — some of them "unprecedented."

Israel also warned that its doors were open to revive the war if it did not respect the ceasefire. Israel stressed that reality on the ground will decide the future of the campaign. As soon as the ceasefire took effect, the Palestinians left their homes to celebrate and took to the streets of Gaza. Some of them chanted "Allahu Akbar," while others were seen whistling from their balcony.
