Israel has been warned not to expel Palestinian residents from their homes in East Jerusalem. "Israel's attempts to remove the Salhiya family from their house in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood fall under the framework of forced displacement," President Mahmoud Abbas stated in a statement, emphasising that the measures were illegal under international and humanitarian law.

According to media reports, the statement stated that Israel's use of force to evict Palestinians and approval of the construction of thousands of settlement units will escalate tensions in the Palestinian areas.According to the statement, the evacuation "could be a prelude to a process of forced displacement of hundreds of Palestinian families from their homes in East Jerusalem."
