Israel Issues Travel Advisory Amid Surge in Antisemitism Worldwide

JERUSALEM: The Israeli government is cautioning its citizens to reconsider their travel plans abroad in light of a significant uptick in antisemitic incidents worldwide, coinciding with the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In a joint announcement released on Friday, the National Security Council (NSC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern about the escalating antisemitism and anti-Israel propaganda, coupled with increasingly violent attacks on Israelis and Jews on a global scale. Notably, this surge has occurred in countries not typically associated with terrorism-related travel warnings, according to reports.

The statement underscores that Jewish communities, religious and communal establishments (such as synagogues, Chabad centers, kosher restaurants, and Israeli businesses), Israeli delegations, and airports with connections to Israel have become prime targets for protests and attacks by antisemitic groups.

The NSC has issued guidelines for Israelis traveling abroad, encouraging them to adhere to recommended safety measures.

Antisemitic incidents have been on the rise worldwide since the outbreak of hostilities involving Hamas on October 7.

In response to these incidents, France and Germany have taken measures to prohibit pro-Palestinian demonstrations, while, in contrast, the Hamas attack has garnered support among certain segments of the population in Sweden and the UK.

In London, the Metropolitan Police reported an alarming 1,353% surge in antisemitic offenses during October, compared to the same month in the previous year, alongside a 140% increase in Islamophobic offenses.

During a Senate panel discussion on Tuesday, FBI Director Christopher Wray highlighted that antisemitism in the United States has reached "historic levels."

In the U.S., advocacy groups are registering a notable increase in hate incidents targeting both Jewish and Muslim individuals during the Israel-Hamas conflict.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is actively collecting data and has observed a rise in reported incidents.

The Anti-Defamation League has documented 312 antisemitic incidents occurring between October 7 and October 23, with 190 of these incidents linked to the conflict between Israel and Gaza.
