Israel Rising Tensions: Israel Targets Gaza Homes, Hospitals; Rockets Fired and More

In the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict, Israeli forces have intensified their attacks by targeting homes and hospitals in Gaza. The situation escalated further as rockets were fired from southern Lebanon towards Israeli military sites. Reports from Al Jazeera Arabic and Lebanese media confirm the rocket attacks on Israeli military posts in the disputed Shebaa Farms area.

Shebaa Farms, a small strip of land near the Lebanon-Syria border and the Golan Heights, has been under Israeli occupation since the 1967 war. This recent rocket attack follows Israel's earlier strikes on several Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon, specifically in the villages of Houla and Ayta ash-Shab.

Tensions have also erupted in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, with clashes reported between Israeli forces and Palestinians. An Israeli bulldozer was targeted with an explosive device, leading to verified footage by Al Jazeera's Sanad fact-checking unit showing Israeli bulldozers destroying streets and infrastructure in the city. Israeli forces further confiscated two vehicles during their operations in Qalqilya, while raids continued in the Old City and at-Tahta neighborhoods of Ramallah.

Japanese Shipping Firm Suspends Red Sea Operations Following Houthi Seizure

Nippon Yusen, the shipping company operating the Galaxy Leader ship seized by Yemen's Houthis on November 19, has announced the suspension of its operations in the Red Sea. The decision, aimed at ensuring the safety of crews, comes two months after the Houthi takeover.

A spokesperson for the Japanese firm, also known as NYK Line, informed AFP news agency that the company shares concerns about the fate of the Galaxy Leader's 25-member crew but has received no information. In December, Galaxy Maritime Ltd, the co-owner of the ship, revealed that the crew, consisting of individuals from Bulgaria, Mexico, the Philippines, Romania, and Ukraine, had been allowed "modest" contact with their families by the Houthis.

Public shipping databases have linked the ship's owners to Ray Car Carriers, founded by Abraham "Rami" Ungar, one of the wealthiest individuals in Israel. The situation remains fluid as companies in the region take precautions amid heightened tensions.
